 – Carl Hansen & Son invests heavily in the US market

Driven by major progress in Europe, Carl Hansen & Son, a Danish-owned furniture manufacturer, is turning its sights on success in the US market and opening an exclusive showroom in New York. The Danish Crown Prince and Princess were among the first guests at the official opening, at this world-class Danish design store.

Carl Hansen & Son, a Danish-owned manufacturer of designer furniture, has just officially opened its new 6000 sq. ft. showroom in SoHo, New York, an occasion presided over by HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary. Launching the new showroom was also part of the official export drive where exponents of the best in Danish design were represented.

By establishing a showroom and sales organization in New York, Carl Hansen & Son is significantly stepping up its commitment to the US market. “The US has always interested us and was actually one of our first export markets way back in the 1950s. After years of success and significant growth rates in the European market, we have chosen to invest heavily in our US activities to realise the huge potential and growth opportunities in the North American market. Establishing our new showroom is therefore only the first step in building up our organization in the USA,” explains Knud Erik Hansen, CEO.

Carl Hansen & Son’s strategy for the US market is to target its activities towards architects and professional buyers. Establishing a showroom is therefore a vital factor in showcasing our range for this target group. The company has achieved this successfully in Copenhagen, Denmark, where an impressive showroom was recently opened in a large industrial-style complex in a thriving new design district.

“We can see that Americans are appreciating elegant and simple designs more and more. A prime example is world-famous Danish architect Hans J. Wegner with his legendary Wishbone Chair,” says Thomas Vagner, President, Americas, adding: “We take American consumers seriously which is why we want to meet their need for shorter delivery times and greater flexibility.”

Carl Hansen & Son’s products are sold all over the world through a network of sales subsidiaries in Canada, Japan, China and now the USA as well as through its own sales representations in Hong Kong, the UK, Germany, Norway and Sweden in addition to local agencies. Knud Erik Hansen concludes: “We are expecting a great deal from this initiative and are looking forward to writing a whole new chapter in the multi-faceted story of this century-old, family-run company spanning several generations.”

Beautiful Advent Calendars from Rococo Chocolates

This Rococo advent calendar was inspired by the many friends and customers over the years who have asked us to create something spectacular to celebrate  the Christmas season.

Although not a traditional nativity scene, Chantal Coady, Rococo’s founder, knew the minute she saw Elaine Bayley’s watercolour (painted to raise funds for Bel Air Children’s Home in St Georges, Grenada) that it would be perfect. Bel Air have kindly allowed Rococo to use the image in return for a donation to help the children of Grenada. The design also includes Rococo’s traditional images inside the doors and on the box.

There are three versions:

Number one is filled with Rococo’s  Prof du Choc Laurent Couchaux‘s award-winning fresh ganaches. It must be pre-ordered and will be available from our shops from 26th November. It retails at £70.00

For a real treat number two is for you / your loved one. Again it’s filled with Laurent’s award winning ganaches and a Duppoini silk scarf with stunning cocoa leaf design hiding underneath the chocolates. It must be pre-ordered and retails at £150.00

If you need to get your calendar well ahead of time, number three has a wider selection of chocolates that will last a little longer and are also suitable for children.  Available Nov 4th approx. It retails at £50.00

Hay Relaunches FDB’s Classic Furniture

70 years after the launch of the first FDB furniture Hay is now taking on production of quite a few of the classic pieces. Functional and democratic design for the people was the thought behind the furniture production FDB started in the 1940’s. “This democratic thought is close to Hay’s philosophy”, says Christian Skovhus, of Icon of Denmark, brand agents for Hay in the UK.

The furniture is an important part of Danish design history and is very apt for now, a period when people have less money to spend on designs for their homes. “It has always been Hays most important task to produce quality and durable designs at a reasonable price, and that is why we are taking on this project” informs Rolf Hay.

The FDB collection from Hay consists of 5 chairs designed by Poul M. Volther, Jorgen Baekmark and Folke Paalsson as well as a table designed by Jorgen Baekmark. The furniture is made from beech and available in beech as well as in black, white, grey and coralPrices range from £118 for chairs and £237 for tables, the furniture will be available from November.

The collection will be available at the Hay store in Covent Garden
