LUCKY 13 – Academy of Chocolate awards 2015

Rococo Chocolates receive thirteen medals in a year which has seen more entries than ever before, The Academy of Chocolate has awarded Rococo Chocolates 4 Gold, 4 Silver and 5 Bronze medals; the most awards ever received in one year by Rococo Chocolates. This reflects the attention to detail and dedication to quality by Barry Johnson, Rococo’s Principal Chocolatier, and his team. Huge congratulations for this outstanding result.

“I am absolutely delighted with this crop of medals which reflect so beautifully the breadth of our Rococo Chocolates range.

From our Rococo Couture Collection with our new single origin ganaches, hand made by the gifted principal chocolatier Barry Johnson and his team, to our Artisan chocolate bars from our Choc-A-Porter Collection. I am especially proud of our Gru Grococo 2014 vintage single estate bar made from the beans grown on our very own cocoa farm in Grenada” said Chantal Coady OBE.

In the words of the Academy of Chocolate press release, “Rococo ruled the roost in the Best Filled Chocolate – Plain category, taking home three Gold awards for its Single Origin Peru Ganache, Single Origin Dominican Republic Ganache and Single Origin Chuao Ganache.” A fair comment after taking all of the gold medals in this category!

Laurent Couchaux, Head Chocolatier at Rococo Chocolates, voted Chocolatier of the Year

The Academy of Chocolate Awards ceremony for 2011 took place last night at Fortnum & Mason and Rococo Chocolates are proud to announce that  Laurent Couchaux was voted Chocolatier of the Year, sharing the coveted award with 2 other UK chocolatiers, William Curly and Keith Hurdman of Thorntons.

Prof du Choc Laurent Couchaux has been at Rococo Chocolates for almost 3 years now and has had great success with his superb couture ganaches. This year The Academy of Chocolate awarded them 5 golds (2 Best in Category) medals, as well as several silvers and a bronze… The flavours, as always intriguing, were:

Grenada Single Origin plain dark truffle – Gold & best in category

Grenada with Islay Malt Whisky flavoured truffle– Gold & best in category

‘Tendance Rouge’ Red Berry Fruit – Gold. This is also won a special award from Quinta do Noval Port
Sea Salt Milk Chocolate Artisan Bar – Gold

Rococo Cat That Got The Cream Ganache Box – Gold for packaging design

Chantal Coady who founded Rococo Chocolates in 1983 had this to say:
” We were absolutely thrilled for Laurent’s talent to be recognised with the “Best Chocolatier” award. He has spent the last 2 and a half years developing our Rococo Couture Range of ganaches. This range is wonderfully versatile, using very small batches, fresh ingredients, and no preservatives – so they need to be eaten very quickly. The flavours change seasonally as well as having a core collection of firm favourites year around. And we were particularly delighted that the chocolates made using our Grococo Grenada chocolate were best in category, and that the Grenada Chocolate Co 82% bar also won the silver.”
