Delicious Tastes of Autumn

 

 

                      

The Rococo Chocolatiers, headed by Karen Waller has continued their search around our Country for seasonal local ingredients.  For the Autumn collection, they journeyed to the South West on an exploration of local produce and well-known favourites. Celebrating some of the best this region has to offer, evoking childhood memories of clotted cream and fudge and licking the salt spray from your lips, and grown-up moments of sunny afternoons with a glass of cider. The quartet is completed by contemporary offerings of rare Cornish-grown tea crafted into the chocolate equivalent of sitting down with a comforting cup of tea and biscuits, and Devon-grown chilli to spice you up as the nights draw in.

Somerset Cider

There’s a unique scent and flavour to West Country cider. The chocolatiers combined a Burrow Hill cider jelly, with a milk chocolate Ice Cider ganache which has the sweet, concentrated flavour of apples left on the trees past the first frosts, with a nod to the wine makers’ tradition: “vendange tardive”. First it’s fruity cider, then it mellows into unmistakable wood and smokey notes.

Cornish Tregothnan Tea and Biscuits

Cornwall is the only place in England to grow Camillia Sinesis commercially to make tea. The stunning Tregothnan Estate plucks its harvest and blends with classic Assam and Darjeeling. In the Rococo kitchen they have created a layered praline with Cornish spiced fairing biscuits and tea leaves, and a milk ganache infused with whole leaf Tregothanan tea.

South Devon Chilli

Karen and her team experimented with many different chillies – working with the South Devon Chilli Farm. In the end they chose three kinds:  Paprika, Padron and Guajillo, for their blend of fruitiness and heat. They have developed a Chilli truffle that sneaks up on you then hits you with the perfect amount of punch.

Salted Clotted Cream Fudge

An unmistakable classic in a sophisticated guise. The chocolatiers blended the famous Rodda’s Cornish clotted cream into a butter fudge, and offset its sweetness with a fine coat of dark chocolate and a sprinkling of Cornish sea salt. One is just not enough – can I have another please?

The Autumn collection is available in Rococo stores and online in 12 and 4 choc boxes £17.95 and £6.50 at the end of next week to celebrate Chocolate Week, but if you can’t wait loose in store too at £14.20 per 100g, any day now.

IMG_5478It was a very proud moment for Chantal Coady OBE, owner and creative director of Rococo Chocolates, and Barry Johnson, principal chocolatier at Rococo Chocolate when they were presented with Gold medals for two of their delicious products from the International Chocolate Awards during The Chocolate Show.

During the show there were other challenges and again Rococo proved a force to be reckoned with, Barry’s praline cigar won 2nd place in the:

Great British Spice Chocolate Challenge

2nd place     –     Hazelnut, orange and Lebkuchen spiced praline cigar.

Chantal and Barry would like to offer their congratulations to Zara Snell who, at only 19 years old, won the Spice Challenge a great achievement. Well Done! She is surely one to watch!

And not only is Rococo producing the best chocolate, they are also the fastest – proved so well by Sam Smallman, retail and events manager, in the truffle rolling competition which he won convincingly.

Chocolate Week at Rococo is all about taste

Rococo-117 bDuring Chocolate week, which starts on October 13, Rococo is inviting you to taste their very special organic artisan bars. Each day a new flavour will be offered to customers. It will be the same flavour in each Rococo shop – Motcomb Street, Moxon Street, Kings Road and Chester -and there will be a 15% discount on the flavour of the day bar. A perfect way to try something new!

These new flavours form part of the amazing new tastes in the “ultimate boxed collection” from Rococo which will be coming soon.

Monday – Spice Island

This is a tribute to the Grenada Chocolate Company and the islands famous spices. You can almost imagine yourself being there when tasting it.

Tuesday – Peru 63%

Soft gentle fruit bouquet with apricot, citrus, honey, cherry, fig, and new mown hay on the nose. Challenging the 70% orthodoxy –   A perfectly balanced bar.

Wednesday – Honeycomb Crunch

A trip down memory lane, hard to resist this classic tuck shop special of crunchy honeycomb in rich milk chocolate. Even has converts in the die hard dark chocolate tribe!

Thursday – Orange Marmalade

Chunky bits of orange peel with a dash of our old favourite Persian Lime – an enduring favourite in dark chocolate, nothing else quite hits the spot in this way.

Friday – Chuao 70%

Classic criollo beans give this rich chocolate its predominantly citrus and red berry profile, with undertones of hazelnut, coffee and molasses. Long and elegant finish.

Saturday – Raspberry Fizz

The berries balance the sweetness of the white chocolate and popping candy adds a celebratory fizz. Get that summer feeling.

Sunday – Dominican Republic

A classic example of trinitario beans, with lovely mellow notes of honey almond, citrus, leather and wood. The 63% as it allows the subtleties of the cocoa to emerge, sometimes less really is more!

“CHOC-OPERA” during Chocolate Week

Rococo launches LOVE BUG BAR in aid of Kids Company with a CHOC-OPERA during Chocolate Week

 

The ‘Love Bug’ Chocolate Bar in aid of Kids Company will make its debut during Chocolate Week. This is a collectible series of five Rococo organic milk chocolate bars with wrappers designed by children from Kids Company. Retail price £5.50*, with £1 from each bar being donated to fund the Kids Company Arts Progamme.

The bar will be launched at a “Choc-Opera” on Sunday 14 October.  Rococo Chocolates and Cadogan Estates are bringing Impropera’s brand new family show, The Wobbly World of Opera, to the Cadogan Hall, with a special sweet twist for Chocolate Week.

The opera will be performed on 14 October.

All profits from tickets sales to be donated to Kids Company.

Chocolate Week 2012 takes place the 8th – 14th of October, and we have events running through till the 17th

Throughout the week the Rococo shops in London and Chester will be offering tasters of our Autumn collection of chocolates, along with samples of our award-winning drinking chocolate and competitions to win copies of Chantal Coady’s new book. We will also be participating in a series of events throughout the week and our Kings Road shop will have its Choc-Tales installation all week.

Monday 8th October – ‘Nothing like Chocolate’ UK Premiere of this documentary about The Grenada Chocolate Company and its visionary activist founder Mott Green. With Rococo approaching its 30th anniversary, throughout Chocolate Week the Kings Road store will be transformed into an interactive audio-visual installation with original memorabilia documenting the 4 decades of Rococo. The Choc-Tales evening will include a preview of the new Rococo Autumn collection, accompanied by cocktails and extreme Rococo canapés. There will be the chance to meet the founder of  Rococo, Chantal Coady, and to buy a copy of her new book: Rococo, Mastering the Art of Chocolate from 630-730pm

Saturday 13th OctoberChocolate Afternoon Tea  Enjoy a selection of sandwiches, savouries,  scones and cakes and teas with a chocolate theme. Venue: 5 Motcomb St. Time: 2 sittings 2.30-4pm and 4.30-6pm  Introductory price £20  Advance booking essential as numbers are strictly limited!

Saturday 13th October Chocaligraphy Kids Workshop. Venue: Motcomb St.   Time: 10.30 – 12.30pm  Entry: FREE but places must be booked in advance as there is limited availability.

Sunday 14th October – Choc-opera! The highlight of the week, this will be a chance to experience the wibbly wobbly world of improvised opera performed by the brilliant Impropera, brought to you by Rococo Chocolates and Cadogan Estates for the benefit of the wonderful charity Kid’s Company!  To be enjoyed by adults and children alike.

Venue: Cadogan Hall, Culford Room SW1. Tickets to be purchased in advance from Rococo    Time: 3-4pm  Entry: £15  but places must be booked in advance as there is limited availability.

The ‘Love Bug’ Chocolate Bar in aid of Kids Company will also make its debut here. All profits from this and from entry tickets will be donated to Kids Company.

Monday 15th October – to cap off the week in style the 3rd annual 3 course themed Chocolate Tasting Dinner will be held at Hardy’s Brasserie & Wine Bar. Each course will be based on recipes  from Chantal’s new book, followed by a tasting of 3 Rococo ganaches and dessert wines. Time – Book signing from 6.30pm, dinner from 7.30pm, one sitting.
