Rococo Chocolates moving to new stand-alone retail store in Chester

After 5 years nestled at the front of the Grosvenor Hotel on Chester’s Eastgate, Rococo Chocolates is moving to bigger and brighter things at its own independent store at 118 Northgate Street.

The new store will have an even wider selection of delectable handmade chocolates, artisan bars, chocolate figurines and classic gift boxes.

This larger store will also feature a cosy cafe and garden terrace where customers can meet friends and enjoy award winning hot chocolate, and freshly made barista coffee from local roasters Adams + Russell Coffee Roasters

The new shop will also feature a unique Chocolate Classroom which will host workshops, tastings and for all kinds of groups events and occasions from children’s birthdays, to corporate team building to sophisticated hen parties!

VIP guests will be invited to attend an evening party at the new store hosted by Rococo Chocolates Founder, Chantal Coady and her husband James Booth on Thursday 8 June and Rococo Chocolates will open its door for the soft launch on 31 May.

Chantal Coady, OBE:

In 1983, a young woman dared to follow her dreams, to share with others her love for real chocolate.  Following on from a Saturday job in Harrods selling chocolate, Chantal knew she wanted to create her own magical emporium of luxury chocolate. She envisaged Rococo to be a chocolate paradise, so armed with a little knowledge, a dangerous passion and the belief that there was room for a radically different approach to chocolate, Chantal opened the doors of the first Rococo Chocolates shop on the Kings Road in Chelsea. Rococo is known for Ethical Luxury, Chantal has invested in a cocoa farm in Grenada where they work with the local farmers and the Grenada Chocolate Company to add value to this most important crop.

More than three decades and five shops later Chantal is still pioneering the movement for real chocolate.  In 2014 Chantal Coady was awarded an O.B.E. in the Queen’s Birthday Honours ‘For Services to Chocolate’ recognising her long and ground-breaking career.

Rococo Artisan Bar Styling smlFrom opening London’s first real chocolate shop on the Kings Road almost 35 years ago to being awarded the first OBE for Services to Chocolate, Chantal Coady and Rococo are always striving for perfection in both taste and presentation.  Their Artisan Bars, some of the most popular products in their large range, have been given a makeover to make them look and taste even more scrumptious.

With this relaunch Rococo are using more beans from their Grenadian cocoa farm in their house blend, which also contains beans from Tanzania, Dominican Republic and Peru. This has created a smooth and toasty chocolate with fruity notes. The milk chocolate bars now contain almost 10% more cocoa for a richer 40% blend.

This award-winning range of Artisan Bars celebrates Rococo’s history. From classic flavours to exotic influences, each bar in this iconic collection is a reflection of Chantal’s diverse experiences and adventures in far flung locations. Rococo hopes you will enjoy their chocolates as much as Chantal has enjoyed their creation and design.

We asked Chantal which flavours were her favourite for this season: This is what she said: “For the summer it has to be Milk Sea Salt first, as that was inspired walking along a beach in Cornwall back in 1999, followed by the White Cardamom which is so exotic, zingy and not overly sweet as white chocolate can be.”

A CHOCOLATE BAR WITH A TALE TO TELL

Chantal Coady, who started Rococo Chocolates in 1983, has designed new Artisan Bar wrappers to commemorate Rococo Chocolates’ 4th decade.  There are 16 different flavours and 16 different designs.

 “I was inspired by a casual glance onto our celebrated tiled Marococo garden in the Motcomb St store”. They just called out to me: “Here is the answer to the kaleidoscope of flavours in the Artisan

Bars, all looking the same in the Rococo blue and white wrappers!” explains Chantal.  “The garden has many of the plants which are used as flavours in the bars: rose, jasmine, geranium, mint and lavender. The tiles come from Michael Davenport at Dar Interiors, I just love the designs, which are traditional and modern at the same time.”

These bars are still made with Chantal’s own special recipe, however Rococo now use more of their own organic beans from their Grococo plantation in Grenada in order to create an intense, fruity and authentic backdrop – the perfect foil for the different flavour notes in each bar. Chantal continues: “These smells and tastes evoke childhood memories of the brilliant blue skies in my birthplace Teheran, and windy walks on Cornish beaches. To name a few you can try: Basil & Persian Lime, Sea Salt, Cardamom, Orange & Geranium,Chilli, as well as classics like Mint and Ginger”.

Each flavour has been individually matched with a tile just as each bar has its own personality which speaks to the taster, creating a unique chocolate experience. “I hope you enjoy these bars as much as I have enjoyed my immersion in the wonderful world of chocolate for the past four decades!” she finishes.
