Lloyd Loom of Spalding with some exciting new designs at Decorex

Lloyd Loom of Spalding will be exhibiting for the first time at Decorex this year. They can be found at Stand B44, some of the new pieces on show were designed during a sleepy weekend when five designers visited the famous Lloyd Loom of Spalding factory.

Whilst the assembly workers were away, and assisted by two of Lloyd Loom’s skilled craftsmen, the designers with no set agenda, helped themselves to standard components, experimented and reinterpreted. Over the intense and frantic two days, thirteen new concepts were conceived and left in the factory showroom for the staff to find on Monday morning.

The prototype ‘sketches’ that came out of the weekend opened up an enthusiastic dialogue with Lloyd Loom, and six pieces were selected to be taken forward for further development. The resulting prototypes are to be trialed in September during London Design Festival at Design Junction and Decorex ready for feedback and production in January.

The list of designers and their final pieces are:

Carl Clerkin: Saddle Rocker. An informal rocking seat without a front or back. This piece is a long way from the current Lloyd Loom range and sits somewhere between a toy and a stool.

Chris Eckersley: ‘Spalding’ armchair. A low tub chair with a loose cushion. The back/arms formed from a parabolic curve which  introduces a new shape to a distinctly Lloyd Loom chair.

Gareth Neal: ‘Tomlinson’ armchairs. With one simple and gracious flowing component. This pair of his and hers loungers are perfect company to the Lloyd Loom Range.

Amos Marchant: ‘Reading’ High backed reading chair. A large enclosed private chair with a cuff of woven material around its top.

William Warren: ‘LL’ stacking chair, for café, restaurant or domestic use.

William Warren: ‘Paper’ Dining chair and Barstool. Concealed metal fixings offer strength to a simple dowel structure. The archetypal curved chair back is presented in an innovative way.

Rock A Bye Baby

It all began with a pram, when Marshall Burn Lloyd designed a pram in a weave that has since become known as Lloyd Loom.  Now Lloyd Loom of Spalding, the only company still to use the original method of producing the weave, has designed a beautiful cradle.

The cradle will not only be the star of any nursery for all the family’s children, it will without doubt be handed down through the generations – a real heirloom. And it looks so pretty combined with other Lloyd Loom pieces like a comfortable chair for nursing and a laundry basket.

The cradle is available in all 18 house colours, and can be painted to match any nursery at a small extra charge.  The cradle retails at £595.00 and will be available from the Autumn.

Lloyd Loom of Spalding at Beach at Bude

The  Specifier was  Cornish Interiors and the designer Cathryn Bishop, the Owner of Cornish Interiors had the following to say” We refurbished a 30 bed hotel, to create a 15 bed luxury guest house, with a very high level of finish, and a modern take on the beach front theme. We wanted a slight New England feel, so we had limed oak furniture made bespoke; we used Lloyd Loom of Spalding for the look of the product, but also because of its longevity. Overall the hotel has a very calming feel and provides a relaxing spot to enjoy the delights of the North Cornish Coast.” http://www.thebeachatbude.co.uk/

“It was great to see our furniture in this setting” said Managing Director of Lloyd Loom of Spalding, Julie Davenport, “ it looked so at home there and gave the atmosphere of the place a modern, yet cosy and homely feel”.
