Look Smart, Be Smart and Save Energy

As the colour of leaves change to yellows, reds and browns to signal the arrival of autumn, if you haven’t done so already, you’ll be putting the heating on when you come in from work & “just to take the chill off the room” at weekends!  Luxaflex® Duette® Shades will help keep your home warm in the winter.  Its unique honeycomb construction helps reduce heat loss by 46%, helping to save on expensive energy bills.

The original Duette® Shades are as beautifully stylish as they are energy efficient – enjoy stunning designs and colours with a unique honeycomb structure, giving still-air layers that work like an insulating blanket helping insulate rooms in the winter by reducing heat loss, and keeping rooms cooler in the summer.

Luxaflex® products help conserve energy at the window in three important ways:

  1. Insulation

In winter months, your home heating escapes to the outdoors through your windows while in the summertime, the outside heat flows into your home through these same windows. With window treatments that provide insulation, such as the Duette® Shades, you can reduce energy consumption, save on heating and cooling costs, and create a more comfortable atmosphere.

  1. Solar Heat Control

The warmth provided by the sun, its solar energy, may be desirable during the winter to help heat your home, but in the summer, it can make a room overly hot and uncomfortable—driving up air conditioning costs. Many Luxaflex® window treatments help to control solar heat by allowing it into your home in the winter and minimizing the amount that comes in during the summer.

  1. Day lighting

Day lighting is the practice of lighting rooms with natural light rather than artificial light. By drawing natural light into a room many of Luxaflex® window treatments reduce the need for other types of lighting, thereby reducing your energy use.

ROCOCO CHOCOLATES PICKS UP SPECIAL AWARD

The Academy of Chocolate Awards was held at Claridge’s Hotel for the 2017 event. This prestigious, and increasingly internationally recognised event, saw 900 entries this year, showing that the UK chocolate scene is growing in reputation and creativity.

Chantal Coady OBE. Founder of Rococo Chocolates was joined by Head Chocolatier Karen and the entire Rococo Kitchen team of Jordan, Mireille, Paul, Nick and Veronica, to collect all of the Awards, including two of the very few Golds awarded this year: for Citrus Rooibos and Yuzu & Sake, both ganaches from Rococo’s Couture range of Fresh chocolates, as well as a gold for Orange Blossom Neroli Bee Bar.

The surprise of the evening, came when Rococo were also awarded the inaugural Golden Bonbon Award, for the highest scoring chocolate of the year!

That was awarded for Citrus Rooibos – a dark chocolate dome, filled with a layer of sharp, blood orange jelly and a Valrhona ganache infused with rooibos tea. Both of the Gold winning ganaches were created for Rococo’s ‘Round the World’ seasonal range last year, when the chocolatiers worked to discover and share new flavours and ingredients from around the globe. Citrus Rooibos represented South Africa, and the mouth-tingling acidity of the Yuzu & Sake was for Japan.

The Orange Blossom Neroli bee bar, which won Gold in its category of flavoured milk bars, is a 50% dark milk, infused with organic Neroli essential oil for the evocative and delicate flavour of orange blossoms.

As well as the gold, Rococo also won four Silvers for Lychee & Thai Lime, Liquorice & Rhubarb, Sticky Toffee Pudding and our Macadamia Gianduja. Plus three Bronzes for the Cashew & Cocoa Nib Cluster, Popcorn Ganache, and panned Caramelised Macadamias & Hazelnuts.

All three Gold Award winning chocolates are available in all Rococo shops from Saturday.

Hazy Lazy Days – The Summer Collection

Karen Waller, Rococo’s head chocolatier and her team have been making the most of  the balmy months of summertime, bursting with beautiful British fruits and flowers with produce from the south and midlands. They got the first British cassis, a perfectly bitter Gin & Tonic, and a chewy caramel made with a light and fruity ale, brewed in South London. Add to this the intense, floral scent of elderflowers captured in jelly, and the tang of British-grown blackcurrants, and you have a refreshing quartet to take you through the Summer.

Blackcurrant & Cassis

Tangy blackcurrants grown in England, combined with a British first: a delicious cassis from White Heron in Herefordshire, blended with Brazilian dark chocolate to make a classic ganache.

The Perfect G & T

In their Bermondsey gin den, Little Bird serve up their ‘Perfect G&T’ with a big slice of pink grapefruit. They have endeavoured to recreate the experience, with a double layer of zesty pink grapefruit and Fevertree tonic jellies, topped with a juniper-infused Little Bird ganache.

Chewy Beer Caramel

A moreishly chewy and malty caramel, with the light mosaic and citra hop flavours of Gipsy Hill Brewery’s Hepcat IPA, coated in dark Valrhona chocolate. One definitely isn’t enough….

Elderflower & Chuckleberry

A delicate elderflower jelly boosted with Nottinghamshire’s Belvoir elderflower cordial and Chase’s Herefordshire Elderflower liqueur, topped with a beautiful purple ‘Chuckleberry’ ganache made with this unusual British-grown gooseberry X redcurrant.”

The Summer collection is available in Rococo stores and online any day now, in 12 and 4 choc boxes £17.95 and £6.50 and loose in store too at £14.20 per 100g.

Doors Need Blinds Too

Windows get lots of attention when it comes to decorating. The list of solutions is varied and creative. But what about those doors which are often forgotten? Whether they are draughty glass vintage French doors or room height bi-fold doors, they have their own challenges and quirks. Luxaflex® has some great solutions for all the doors in your house.

Patio doors need both privacy and view transparency. Venetian blinds are an ideal choice for large patio doors if you like to pull them up out of the way in summer, or drop them low in the winter to add a wall of texture such as wood. Nano® Roller blinds for patio doors are also a durable and affordable option. They can be also be used with PowerView® motorisation for easy control.

Bi-fold doors are ideal with vertical blinds you can slide them completely out of the way when your windows are pushed all the way back, allowing for flow between internal and external spaces. If you want something in between completely closed or open, you can tilt the panels for gradual changes in natural lighting.

French doors can conjure up a traditional design aesthetic, but they don’t have to. Roller blinds for French doors can give you flexibility but also a modern edge, which allows you to play with the design and mix colour ways for a more dynamic look. If they are old and draughty or you just prefer a more classic feel, wooden blinds or faux wood shutters for French doors are a great choice, as they also hold in the warmth and reduce external noise.

Kitchen and conservatory doors need high traffic solutions. Wipe clean blinds are useful for sticky fingers in materials like wood or metal Venetian blinds. These are often also UPVC doors so you may want a no drill solution. UPVC door blinds that give you fuss-free maximum protection include our Trufit® blinds, which can be fixed perfectly into most frames and eradicate any annoying elements, such as window treatments rattling from doors being banged constantly.

Blinds for front doors often need to deliver discretion for added security. They can make the whole property seem cosier in the winter than if they are mainly glass; Duette® shades  are designed to keep the heat in during winter and out during the hot summer month.

Notes to editors

Chantal Coady, OBE:

In 1983, a young woman dared to follow her dreams, to share with others her love for real chocolate.  Following on from a Saturday job in Harrods selling chocolate, Chantal knew she wanted to create her own magical emporium of luxury chocolate. She envisaged Rococo to be a chocolate paradise, so armed with a little knowledge, a dangerous passion and the belief that there was room for a radically different approach to chocolate, Chantal opened the doors of the first Rococo Chocolates shop on the Kings Road in Chelsea. Rococo is known for Ethical Luxury, Chantal has invested in a cocoa farm in Grenada where they work with the local farmers and the Grenada Chocolate Company to add value to this most important crop.

More than three decades and five shops later Chantal is still pioneering the movement for real chocolate.  In 2014 Chantal Coady was awarded an O.B.E. in the Queen’s Birthday Honours ‘For Services to Chocolate’ recognising her long and ground-breaking career.
